1 Art by Your Friends and Neighbors Exhibit

The nineteenth annual Art by Your Friends and Neighbors art show will open on Wednesday, March 19, at the Marion Heritage Center. This year's exhibit will feature over 60 works of art by area artists, most of them Marion residents. Included will be drawings and photography, ceramics, watercolor, oil and pastel renderings.

The regular season has concluded for Iowa high school girls basketball teams around the state while the boys teams are just wrapping up as teams prepare for a run to Wells Fargo Arena. Postseason pairings are finalized so the Marion Indian and Linn-Mar Lion teams know what they've got to do to get to the State Tournament.
   
7 Leading the nation with a Safe Route to Parks

Marion is again leading the nation by working on a Safe Routes to Parks policy. The program received full support of the council following a presentation by Sara Mentzer, director of development at the YMCA of the Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Area and a representative of Be Well Marion, at the city council's work session Tuesday, Feb. 4. At the following regular meeting on Thursday, Feb. 6, the council voted to direct staff to draft a policy for the city.
   
8 Lions qualify eight to State, win District Title

Just a few days after falling short of qualifying for the 2020 Class 3A State Dual Tournament, the Linn-Mar wrestling team bounced back in a big way. The Lions crowned six district champions, qualified eight wrestlers to the Class 3A Traditional State Tournament and won their district meet in the process. Doug Streicher's team appears to be peaking at the right time.
   
9 Lions seventh at State Swimming

The Linn-Mar Lions swimming team saw consistency and some great efforts as they placed seventh at the 2020 Iowa High School State Swimming Championships this past week. The Lions earned in points in all but two tries and were a staple towards the top of the leaderboard.
   
10 LM changing how its Teacher Leadership System is led

Linn-Mar is changing how its Teacher Leadership System (TLS) is led. The organization currently has a program director leading the group, a structure unique to Iowa schools. That role, however, will be dissolved at the end of the 2019-20 school year and the administration of the team will move to assistant superintendent Nathan Wear's staff. Though two board members expressed concerns, superintendent Shannon Bisgaard said the change is necessary at the board meeting on Monday, Feb. 10.
