Lions seventh at State Swimming

The Linn-Mar Lions swimming team saw consistency and some great efforts as they placed seventh at the 2020 Iowa High School State Swimming Championships this past week. The Lions earned in points in all but two tries and were a staple towards the top of the leaderboard.
Linn-Mar had four top five finishes, highlighted by a third place finish from Aiden Carstensen in the 100 Yard Backstroke. Carstensen was chased by Nick Cavanah, who placed sixth in the same race, and 20th place finisher Ian Steffen. Carstensen also took seventh in the 200 Yard Individual Medley to score points.
Cavanah's top individual effort came in the 100 Yard Butterfly where he placed fourth. Cooper Callahan took fifth in the 500 Yard Freestyle in addition to a seventh place swim in the 200 Yard Freestyle. Alex Cochrane rounded out the individual swims with a 23rd place finish in the 100 Freestyle.
The Lions found success in the three relays they competed in, scoring points in all three. The Four C's 200 Yard Freestyle Relay team of Cavanah, Cochrane, Callahan and Carstensen were fourth place finishers. Carstensen, Steffen, Callahan and Cavanah took sixth in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay while the 200 Medley Relay foursome of Steffen, Greg Gerst, Cochrane and Luke Richard took 13.
The Lions tallied 146 team points while State Champion Iowa City West won it all with 262.5 points.
