Robins Civic Club Scholarship winners

The Robins Civic Club Scholarship Selection Committee has named Noah Gilkes, Meghan Mather, and Erin O'Hara as 2019 scholarship recipients. Each will receive a $500 award sent to their chosen college.

Noah Gilkes, a senior at Linn-Mar High School, was selected for the University of Iowa Honors Program, National Honor Society, National Youth Leadership Forum, and as Varsity Cross Country Team Captain. He has been a Science Olympiad Team Leader and tutor at Linn-Mar. Noah has challenged himself taking numerous advanced placement and college courses and receiving an Academic Letter with Distinction each year.

Noah has volunteered for Feeding Lunches to Youth, Marion Food Pantry, Night to Shine, and Gems of Hope. He is the son of Seth and Sally Gilkes and plans to attend the University of Iowa majoring in Biochemistry with plans for medical school.

Meghan Mather, also a senior at Linn-Mar High School, was selected for National Council on Youth Leadership, National Honor Society, the Iowa Hoby Youth Leadership Conference, and the Pursuing Victory with Honors Summit. She has been involved in SODA, Lean on Me, Prom Committee, and has been a Cross Country and Track team member at Linn-Mar.

Along with achieving Academic Letters with Distinction, Meghan has taken various advanced placement and college courses to accelerate her studies.

Meghan has performed service work for St. Luke's Hospital, Marion Cares, the Step Up for Down Syndrome Walk, as well as through her school and church. The daughter of Mark and Chris Mather, Meghan plans to attend the University of Iowa to study Nursing and become a Pediatric Nurse.

Erin O'Hara, additionally a senior at Linn-Mar High School, was selected for Iowa Girls State, National Council on Youth Leadership Ambassador, National Honor Society, and All-State Speech Honors. She has been elected Thespian Society President, Color Guard Captain, and has been active in Band, Choir, Theater, and Contest Speech. Erin has completed an advanced placement course along with earning Academic Letters of Distinction.

Erin has been a tutor at Linn-Mar and volunteered with Girl Scouts achieving multiple awards, the City of Robins, the Robins Civic Club, Knights of Columbus, Marion Rotary, through Key Club and at her church. She is the daughter of Tim and Rosemary O'Hara and plans to pursue a degree in Secondary Education at the University of Northern Iowa.

The Robins Civic Club would like to thank the Scholarship Selection Committee and congratulate these students as excellent examples of outstanding student citizens.
