Plans for Tower Terrace moving forward
by Cynthia Petersen Correspondent · November 21st, 2018

Hiawatha, Robins, Cedar Rapids, and Marion residents packed the Hiawatha Community Center Oct. 30 for an open house hosted by Corridor Metropolitan Planning Organization. The open house was held to gather input and feedback from the public.

The project will be broken into several smaller projects, with a price tag of approximately $94 million.

Disappointment could be heard throughout the center, when the speaker announced that the entire project would not be complete until 2040-2050. He explained that there were many things to take into consideration as part of the project, including overpasses to construct and making the roadway compatible for each city.

According to Corridor Metropolitan Planning Organization, the plan is to have the road connect Highway 13 in Marion to Interstate 380 in Hiawatha. The project will include the participation of the cities of Hiawatha, Robins, Cedar Rapids, and Marion, Linn County, and the Iowa DOT.

Various displays were available at the open house, with representatives answering questions and providing stickers that allowed attendees to vote for their favorites, including the type of onramp for Interstate 3800 and what they would like the medians to look like.
