Uptown Master Plan and Streetscape Steering Committee
by Robyn Ireland [email protected] · June 18th, 2020
As efforts continue on completing the Marion Central Corridor Plan, adopted in 2010, the City Council and city staff look towards a concept that has been in discussion for over 20 years: the reconstruction of Seventh Avenue and the Streetscape in Uptown Marion. One of many steps in that direction, the Marion City Council approved the mayoral appointments for the Marion Uptown Master Plan & Streetscape Steering Committee at the June 4 meeting. They are:
1. Mayor Nick AbouAssaly
2. Council member Colette Atkins
3. Council member Will Brandt
4. City Planning Commission member Dale Monroe
5. Charles Potter, owner/operator of Potter Real Estate
6. Program director of Uptown Marion Brooke Prouty
7. Kyle Martin, president at Martin Gardner Architecture, P.C.
8. Cody Buelt, Historic Preservation Commission
9. Jeanne Matthews, owner of Uptown Snug
10. Nikki Kettelkamp, owner of SCOUT and
11. Josh Immerfall, owner of Goldfinch
All of the businesses are located in Uptown Marion..
The committee's purpose is to establish and guide the development of both the Marion Uptown Master Plan and the Streetscape Plan. The City has contracted with RDG Planning and Design for assistance with both projects to work alongside Anderson Bogert and develop the design of the streetscape along Seventh Avenue as well as 10th Street between Sixth and Eighth Avenues. RDG will be working to develop the pedestrian and amenity zones while Anderson Bogert will focus on the underground utility work, as well as street design.
It is anticipated that preliminary design options will be presented in the next few weeks. The design is anticipated to be developed over the next few months and finalized in late fall. Ideally the project would commence next year. However, timing will likely be dependent on how far along the last phase of the Central Corridor project gets through the summer and fall.
