Marion improves to 10-9
by Brandon Leonard Correspondent · February 8th, 2018

The Marion boys' basketball team is riding a three game winning streak and appear to be hitting their stride at the right time. The Indians are now back above .500 with home wins over Vinton-Shellsburg and South Tama last week. Marion kept the pace slow and played efficient basketball with a 47-24 win over Vinton-Shellsburg and grinded out a 56-44 win over the Trojans last Friday night.

In the 23-point win over the Vikings, Chase Zielke had a big game with 21 points and five rebounds. Grant Meth, Trevor Paulsen, Mason Rahe and Jaffer

Murphy each had four points apiece. Murphy, a sophomore, led the team with five steals in his best defensive performance of his prep career.

In the 12-point win over South Tama, it was Paulsen who had a big night, finishing with 20 points, six assists and five rebounds to lift the Indians over the Trojans. Murphy had another solid outing with 11 points, while Matthew Brase and Meth had six points apiece. Zielke did not suit up in the win over South Tama.

Marion has just one game on the docket this week: a home game against West Delaware.
