So far this season, the Marion football team's bread and butter offensive team has been the two-headed rushing attack of Trevor Paulsen and Chris Mohwinkle. Needing a big game from the dynamic duo in the backfield on Friday, the Indians managed just 58 rushing yards on 15 carries as Dubuque Wahlert controlled the trenches on their way to a 34-14 victory over Marion.

Paulsen led the team in rushing with 40 yards on 10 carries, but completed just 14 of his 35 passing attempts. The junior did finish with 177 yards and two touchdowns through the air, but also threw two picks in the process.

Blair Brooks was the team's leading receiver with six catches for 64 yards and a touchdown. Grant Meth also found the end zone with a four-yard touchdown catch of his own.

Defensively, Alex Whalen was all over the field with 12.5 tackles, one of which was for a loss. Dalton Cannon had the team's lone sack while Dawson Kirk and Connor Whalen recorded interceptions.

The loss drops Marion to 2-2 overall on the season and 1-1 in Class 3A District 4 play. Marion will look to rebound on the road this Friday night as they play Maquoketa. The Cardinals are winless so far in 2017.
