Indians win one, lose one
by Brandon Leonard Correspondent · May 18th, 2017

The Marion boys' soccer team suffered its second loss of the season last week. One positive about the loss, though, is that it was not against a WaMaC Conference opponent. The Indians suffered a 3-2 loss against Mount Pleasant but rebounded nicely against West Delaware with a 2-0 win to push their overall record to 9-2 and 9-1 in WaMaC play.

Thomas Peyton and Jaffer Murphy scored goals in the loss to Mount Pleasant while John Owen had eight saves in the losing effort. The Indians fired 11 shots on goal but could not convert on the opportunities they were presented.

In the 2-0 win against the Hawks, it was Jacob Dieters and Josiah Smith who found the back of the net for the Indians. Carson Gorton was stiff between the pipes and earned the three-save shutout win.

Marion will wrap up regular season play with Western Dubuque and West Liberty this week. With a win over Western Dubuque, the Indians will clinch the 2017 WaMaC West Division championship.
