Heritage Bank, Marion, Iowa, is pleased to announce that the bank has sponsored the non-profit organization, Marion Senior Living Community, in its application for a Competitive Affordable Housing Program grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank.

The federal entity recently awarded Marion Senior Living Community a $240,000 grant for a rehabilitation project at its Scott Meadows building, according to Heritage Bank President Tammy Danover.

The grant will make it possible for major upgrades and repairs to Scott Meadows, which opened in April 2004. Among those are a new roof, security cameras, the replacement of security doors and cabinet door refacing in the units, to name only a few.

Marion Senior Living Community was previously known as Marion Churches Senior Living Community Foundation. That Foundation was formed when various churches located in Marion realized that there was a need for low-income senior housing and made the first contributions to help. HUD funding also was procured for the project.

Moundview Manor was the first building to open, in April 2000. Since that time, the East Kacena campus has been expanded to include Scott Meadows (April 2004) and Trinity Pointe (August 2008). A fourth building will be added in the future.

The Board of Directors consists of 20 members with the following officers: Dick Grimm, president; Mark Mowrer, vice president; Linda Dearinger, secretary; Jan Lamm, corresponding secretary; and Kevin Ballard, treasurer.

Two annual support events are held each year: the Christ Community UMC 5K fRun and the Faith Lutheran lasagna dinner.
