1 ICAN sees early success for FAFSA Ready Iowa initiative

In the first four months of its FAFSA Ready Iowa initiative, the Iowa College Access Network (ICAN) has assisted in the completion of more than 3,800 FAFSA forms, kick-starting the new college financial aid season and ensuring more students are able to access financial aid assistance for their post-high school endeavors. Comparatively, during the same four-month time frame one year ago, ICAN completed 756 FAFSA forms.
   
2 2017 Democratic Caucuses Meeting

2017 Democratic Caucuses will be held on Saturday, March 4. Democrats from Alburnett, Central City, Center Point, Coggon, Palo, Lisbon/Franklin Township, Mount Vernon, Prairieburg, Robins, Springville, Toddville, Walker and some parts of Marion and rural Bertram (State Senate District 48) will be meeting at Gwen's Restaurant, 119 West Main in Lisbon. Registration starts at 9 a.m. and the meeting starts at 10 a.m.

7 Linn-Mar's Success Center committed to achieve student independence

The transition from high school to the workforce or secondary education is a big step in life for all students. For students enrolled in an Individualized Education Program (IEP), they may not be ready to make that transition yet. That's where the Linn-Mar Success Center comes in. According to Christine McSweeney, director of off-site programming, "the center is a 12-plus program for students who have already gone through four years of high school and range in age from 18-21." The goal of the center is to assist students who still have skill deficits in areas like independent living, jobs skills and functional academics. "These are real-life skills you would need to understand while out in the community, such as reading signs, menus and bus schedules," she said.

Celebration of Life will he held on Saturday, March 4, 2017, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Central City American Legion, Wapsi Post #421. Burial will be at a later date at Silver Creek Cemetery.

Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral Mass was at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, conducted by Father Philip Thompson. Burial will take place at a later date at Eastside Cemetery, Elkader.
